Day 9 of the Spooky Cyber Safety Challenge: Mummy's Secret Maze Puzzle

We’ve reached Day 9 of 10 in our Spooky Cyber Safety Challenge! Today’s lesson is about one of the most powerful tools families can use to stay safe online: multi-factor authentication (2FA).

Think of 2FA like a mummy’s secret code—just when a hacker thinks they’ve found the treasure (your password), they hit another layer of protection they can’t get through.

To make this fun for kids, we’ve created the Mummy’s Secret Maze Puzzle. As your child helps the ghost navigate through the maze, talk about how 2FA works and why it’s like solving an extra puzzle before unlocking your digital world.

Why Multi-Factor Authentication (2FA) Matters

  • Extra protection: Even if someone guesses your password, 2FA keeps accounts locked.

  • Common and practical: Many apps and games kids already use (like Roblox, Fortnite, or Google) support 2FA.

  • A family habit: When kids see parents using 2FA, they’ll adopt it naturally as a lifelong safety practice.

How to Explain 2FA to Kids

Here’s a simple analogy for families:

  • Password = Your house key
It unlocks the door, but if someone steals your key, they can walk right in.

  • 2FA = A secret spell only you know
Even if someone gets your key, they still can’t open the secret door without the special spell (like a code texted to your phone, an app code, or fingerprint).

Examples Kids Can Relate To

  • Gaming: Turn on 2FA in Fortnite or Roblox so only you can access your account, even if someone else guesses your password.

  • School apps: Some schools now use 2FA for logins—show your child what it looks like.

  • Parental accounts: Show them when you log into email how an extra code protects important information.

Activity: Mummy’s Secret Maze Puzzle 🧩

  1. Print today’s maze sheet.

  2. Let your child help the ghost find the path to the center lock.

  3. As they play, explain: “Just like this maze, passwords sometimes aren’t enough—hackers can find their way in and then around. But with 2FA, you add an extra puzzle they can’t solve.”

  4. Bonus: Set up 2FA together on one of your child’s real apps.

This makes learning both visual and practical—kids connect the concept of “an extra puzzle” with a real-life action they can use.
